Event: Federal Government Update of COVID-19 Lockdown Directive

Nigerian President Buhari and the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF) have approved the extension of ‘phase two’ for easement of the lockdown, which has been in place since June 02, 2020. The modified guidelines for phase two, which will be in place through July 27, 2020, includes: 

  • The nationwide curfew remains in place from 10:00 P.M. – 4:00 A.M. daily. Healthcare workers and journalists are exempted from his curfew.
  • Banks may resume normal working hours.
  • Government offices will be open between 9:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. Monday – Friday.
  • Interstate travel may resume on July 01, 2020.
  • All airports remain closed to domestic and international travel, except for emergency flights. The PTF is seeking to commence domestic flights as soon as possible but no date has been set.
  • Face masks or coverings are mandatory in public settings and handwashing/sanitizing practices must continue to be followed.
  • Ban on gatherings of more than 20 people outside of a workplace.
  • Relaxation of restrictions on schools to allow for students in graduating classes Secondary School 3, Junior Secondary School 3 to return to prepare for exams.
  • Bars, cinemas, recreational parks, gyms, entertainment centers, and night clubs remain closed.

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos ask all U.S. citizens to continue to shelter in place and practice social distancing when movement is necessary. Please continue to monitor local news sources and guidelines published by local and state governments regarding movement restrictions, gatherings, and curfews.

The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos has organized a chartered evacuation flight for the week of June 29 – July 5 from Lagos to Atlanta, GA. The Consulate will call you if there is space available on the flight. There are no scheduled flights from Abuja at this time.

The U.S. Mission continues to track requests for repatriation to ensure we have the latest information on the needs of U.S. citizens in Nigeria, however, please note the Embassy and Consulate General are unable to guarantee additional evacuation flights.  

To better track these requests, we released a new evacuation questionnaire on April 22, 2020. If you have not yet completed the questionnaire, please CAREFULLY and ACCURATELY complete the appropriate questionnaire below. EACH TRAVELER in your party must complete his/her own questionnaire in order to be included in our data.  You should complete the form only for the consular district where you are located.

If you have already completed the questionnaire, please do not submit another form or call to check on the status of a flight; we have received your information. If we have space for you on a future flight, you will be contacted by phone using the number you provided in the evacuation request questionnaire.
