How do I apply for an Ambassador’s Special Self-Help grant?
Your organization must prepare a Statement of Interest based on the program requirements listed in the Notice of Funding Opportunity found here. You will need to email your statement to abujapolecongrants@state.gov.
What is the review process for the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help program?
A Grants Review Committee will evaluate all eligible Statements of Interest (SOIs.) All eligible SOIs will be reviewed against the criteria listed in the Notice of Funding Opportunity for the program. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal. Submitted proposals will go through a second merit review before final funding decisions are made.
How can I partner with you on the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help-Program?
The program is managed internally, and we don’t offer paid or volunteer partnerships.

The program doesn’t offer sponsorships for individuals, families, or events. Only organized groups implementing projects benefitting entire communities are considered for funding.

The program does provide funds to individuals. The aim of the program is community well-being, extending beyond individuals.
I sent you an email requesting a grant. When can I expect an answer?
Applying organizations must submit a Statement of Interest prepared following the requirements and instructions noted in the Notice of Funding Opportunity. An email will not suffice for consideration for the competition.
Our organization received an Ambassador’s Special Self-Help grant in the past. Can we apply again?
We receive hundreds of requests for funding. To give a chance to other communities, groups that have been funded through the Ambassador’s Special-Self Help program in the past are not eligible to apply.
My organization is not based in Nigeria. Can I apply for the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help grant in Nigeria?
Only organizations legally registered in Nigeria are eligible to apply. Check the website of the U.S. Embassy in your country to find information about the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help program locally.
I am an individual with an idea for a community project. Is the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help grant for me?
The program accepts applications from established groups. We encourage you to work with such a group in your community to submit a proposal. The program does not allow funding of individuals.
We need support for our community. Can you help us?
This program provides modest grants for small scale community development activities that improve living conditions. If your group meets the eligibility criteria, you should submit a Statement of Interest prepared according to the requirements and instructions found in the Notice of Funding Opportunity.
